A Wife's Worry

Posted on 06 Oct 2018 @ 4:12am by Police Detective Annie Sharpe

Mission: The Void
Location: Deck 557
Timeline: MD-01

Annie’s stomach churned at the thought that popped into her head as she set foot amongst the chaos of the Deck 557 Promenade.

Phil.

She hadn’t heard from him yet. Their quarters were on the same floor as her office on Deck 589 and she knew he would have gone over to the office after what happened. And he hadn’t.

Annie was told to stay put and help out where she was at. Her hand started shaking, feeling the helpless darkness in the pit of her stomach, as she clicked on her Tac Comm and grabbed onto MacKenzie to get her and Leah to stop walking for a moment. “Ivanov from Sharpe, has Phil stopped by the office yet?” Her voice was audibly shaken up as she inquired.

There was a brief pause before his voice popped up. “Negative. Phil hasn’t come in yet. Was he at his office or at your quarters?”

“He was at home tonight,” Annie continued, trying to keep her voice as neutral as possible as her chest squeezed around her heart.

Another pause. “I’ll get someone to go check on him,” Max’s voice reassured her.

“Annie, I’ll go,” Joey jumped in quickly. “I’m not too far.”

Annie let out a long sigh filled with nerves and anxiety as she looked over at the women. “Thanks, Joey. I owe you one.”

“No, you don’t,” Joey replied even quicker.

Annie looked down at the Tac Comm as the traffic went silent. All of her faith was in this little machine. Her future was in Joey’s hands. Time suddenly halted as she looked all around her. She was being pulled in two different directions, needing to help the people around her and wanting to run straight home and into Phil’s arms. She was grateful for her friends who were willing to go out of their way to take care of their own.

Without them, she would be broken.

Without Phil, she would be nothing.

She looked back at MacKenzie and Leah who had both remained silent during the exchange. No matter how hard she tried she couldn’t mask the depth of her worry over her husband. Without giving them time to ask, Annie feined a smile as best as she could. “Let’s do this.”
